Tell Congress to Fire the Swamp!

The Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs can legally fire bad federal employees much faster than other agencies. Tell Congress to extend this power to all Cabinet secretaries in the December spending bill.

Every member of Congress should support the MERIT Act, which would expedite the removal of federal employees who have engaged in misconduct or are simply not performing, while limiting appeals to 30 days. Under current law it can take multiple years to remove an employee. A system that was initially designed to stop political manipulation of the civil service has become an unhealthy protection of bad behavior.

Many Americans wonder how civil servants at the Justice Department who abused their power still have their jobs. The reason is because of antiquated civil service protections. Congress has already managed to reform this problem at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and it’s working, now it needs to be allowed to work for all the other departments and agencies to hold federal employees accountable for their actions.

This is a bill whose time has come.

Public employees are generally paid higher wages than private business employees in similar positions. If anything, public employees should be scrutinized more closely than private business employees and with higher expectations as they are being paid by taxpaying citizens! It is deplorable that it is so difficult to remove public employees who are not performing at just a mediocre level, and it is unacceptable that some are still employed while watching porn on the job, sleeping on the job, political campaigning on government pay, etc. I am disgusted by the impunity with which so many government offices disrespect the taxpaying citizenry!! Pass the Merit Act already!!!

Anyone who has a job and isn't performing up to his/her ability should be fired. It's time to wake up and do government business the way it is done outside of government. What a sham to put up with this kind of operation.

No business entity, private or public, should be shackled with personnel who are non-productive, and/or disruptive, and/or incapable/incompetent, and/or unmanageable. There are sufficient regulations, policies, procedures to provide for a judicious and equitable severance of such employees. There is no reason to burden the tax-payers with people who do not meet the required performance criteria for a position. You do not put up with it in/from your staff, neither should anyone else.

Why aren't people held accountable any more? If you do something wrong at your job you should be punished. Don't let them stay at the job and continue to let them work. Look at Hillary? And she was given money by the taxpayers.

The process to fire a federal employee is overly cumbersome and requires an extreme amount of time, documentation and concentration of a manager to complete. I know this because I was a MID-Level manger with the Dept Of Defense, Army. I had three years of documentation, progressive discipline of an individual, many, many repeated violations and our Labor Management Office in our Personnel Office refused to take firing action!

Please pass the MERIT Act. Government employees should have to do their job and if they are not willing to get rid of them immediately. The working class should not have to pay for employees that think they can get paid for not doing their jobs.

Only in government does it take a act of congress to fire a useless employees. In the real world where there is a profit motive attached to the employment of an individual people are fired i if they don't produce why should government employment be different?
